Summary/Abstract: In this paper, based on statistical data on the natural movement of population in Serbia in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, we analyze the structure of mortality by sex. We presented mortality rates of males and females (1862–1910), mortality rates for both sexes distributed by age groups (1896– 1905), average age of death for both sexes, in general and classified by the type of settlement (1891–1910) and mortality rates for both sexes classified by marital status (1897–1910). Special attention was paid to the differences in mortality patterns of males and females at different life stages – early childhood and the fertile period of life, along with differences in urban and rural areas.
