Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to read the relationship between cultural identity and cinema through Syriac and Turkish identities. Based on the assumption that representations of cultural identity are reconstructed in cinema, the study aims to comparatively analyze the cultural identity construction of Syriac and Turkish identities in the Kapı (Nihat Durak, 2019) through cinema, which is the field of representation. The way the film presents the cultural representations will be emphasized. The analysis of the film was carried out in the context of representation and marginalization of Turkish and Syriac cultural identities. The critical reading of the film was made within the framework of cultural identity dependent variable, traditions and customs, common past, ethical values (moral understandings), art and architectural understanding. Opposite characteristics attributed to opposing societies or societies to which opposing characters are connected by a bond of belonging have been identified. Considering the power of cinema to influence the society politically, culturally and socially, it is certain that the balanced representations of opposing identities will make an important contribution to the provision of social cohesion.
