Summary/Abstract: Lithuanian phonologic system is closely related to the writing system, so the pronunciation is rather convenient in this aspect. On the other hand, pronunciation mistakes are very obvious: bad public language, television and radio employees cannot be characterized by correct pronunciation. The situation at school is much the same. This article investigates by means of public survey what are the needs of speakers themselves and what is their attitude towards pronunciation. 160 respondents (40 journalists and about 120 students of 10-12 grades) participated in the survey. To summarize the results of the investigation, the majority of language users consider their pronunciation is rather good. Journalists realize defects in pronunciation and the necessity to train correct pronunciation better than others. Respondent opinions show that not only pronunciation but also teaching pronunciation should be improved.
