Summary/Abstract: The foundation of the “Romanian-Polish Commission of Ceremuș” represented an original solution for the regulation of timber rafting on the rivers situated at the northern Romanian-Polish borders of the county, a natural consequence of the constructive relationships between the two countries during the Interwar period. After a hesitant start, the budget of the “Commission of Ceremuș” became more and more defined, the proceeds represented by the contributions of timber-raftsmen being used to finance the bank consolidation works, as the constructions served the timber rafting, to compensate the locals, to cover the materials and staff expenses. The number of permanent and seasonal staff grew three times between 1922 and 1939, whereas the total expenses grew seven times. The activity of this mixed fluvial office equally faced tense situations and scandals taking into consideration the huge stakes represented by the timber trade in Ceremuș basin.
