Summary/Abstract: The imperative of the teaching process in the modern age is to adapt to the requirements and interests of the modern student and permeation of the content of different subjects and linking their goals, tasks and activities into one whole. All of this means introducing innovative and modern teaching strategies that will make learning fun, open and collaborative. In this paper, we present some of the modern methods of active learning in teaching Bosnian language and literature and in English language that allow students to acquire through research and interaction with other students, new knowledge and skills in an environment where they will learn how to learn. The focus is on educational strategies that put students’ creativity, innovation, critical thinking and the way of acquiring knowledge through their own efforts, but also through cooperation, as opposed to the methods of traditional teaching. The teaching system, which includes intra-subject and inter-subject connection of teaching contents, aims to enable students to implement the newly acquired knowledge in their cognitive, life and emotional experience.
