Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the necessity to study the phraseological calquing as one of the ways of forming of the Old Church Slavonic lexical fund. The practice of comparing Old Church Slavonic texts and their Greek (and sometimes Latin) originals shows that many multi-word names can be “suspected” to have been formed by phraseological calquing. However, it should be taken into account that the similarity of Greek and Old Church Slavonic phrases does not always indicate calquing. Any way the influence of the Greek structures on the formation of the Old Church Slavonic ones should be considered more carefully. The author suggests that both direct word-by-word phraseological calquing and interaction of the structures of the Greek multi-word nominations with the models existing in the Slavic folk speech of the time could have been used in the formation of restricted collocations.
