Summary/Abstract: This article entitled „The political delusion in Central and Eastern Europe” presents an analysis of the democratic transition process that marked the return of the former Soviet bloc nations to full membership in European political civilization. But the concrete achievement process turned out to be a non-event and even a failure for the most citizens of these states because their hopes and expectations didn’t correspond to the reality, much more complex and difficult than they could imagine, provoking thus delusion and sorrow. It aroused scant enthusiasm or even much public interest, and in truth changed little in the short run. Enlargement nevertheless presents an opportunity: with luck and dedication, the ten new member-states can catalyze long-overdue EU reform, thereby stimulating economic growth, restoring public trust in the integration project, and promoting European cooperation.
