Summary/Abstract: The essay considers the role of the universities and of the academic freedom related to provisions of the rights and duties of the academic community ruled bythe national education law while highlighting actual cases of how said provisions are implemented. The starting point is made of decisions adopted by several university Senates pertaining on their own methodologies/rules concerning the teaching process, mainly of retired faculty, views and proposals in the professional literature on this issue.
