Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the need of creating a functional descriptive grammar of Polish, particularly its syntax, for the purposes of teaching Polish to foreign learners. Frequent problems in learning and teaching Polish syntax have been presented. A functionally-oriented descriptive syntax of Polish should include the presentation of structural, semantic and syntagmatic relationships in sentences. The description should take into account the problems that foreign learners have in learning Polish.
