Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to expose the role of the repetition in the process of constructing an universal subject. Author draws mostly on psychoanalytic theories and the critique of the metaphysics of presence. The subject does not emerge out of nothingness, or chaos, but comes to being out of an unbearable fear of them which is transformed into a creative movement – an escape bound to cover this horrifying emptiness. The escape from emptiness becomes a repetition compulsion. The main role in the construction of the subject is played by voice and speech which lead to the emergence of the consciousness. Recurring compulsive activities lead to the formation of the strong subject (Narcissus), founded by the rules of phonocentrism and logocentrism. This always already present, objective and bodiless phallic subject (the outcome of repetitions) ultimately becomes identified with masculinity.
