Summary/Abstract: In an interview with Andrzej Marzec, Simon Reynolds talks about his new book Retromania. He explains why contemporary culture seems to feel a nostalgic longing for what is past, or is even dependent on its own past. The music critic examines hipster culture, and such phenomena as recreativity, British hauntology, American hypnagogic pop, and revivalism. He attempts to show why contemporary music can no longer be seen and described using categories such as novelty and originality. He also explains how changes in the reception and consumption of music affect its creation.
