Summary/Abstract: The Castle of Maisons is one of the reference buildings of classical architecture in France. Located between the Seine and the forest of Saint‑Germain, this construction has been recognized since the 17th century as one of the most beautiful pleasure houses in the vicinity of Paris. This construction remains today as one of the most accomplished manifestos of classical French architecture thanks to the orchestration of symmetry, transparency and ancient inspiration. The classical imprint asserts itself on the inside and outside arrangements with symmetry and strict ordering. Outside, the pediments are little accentuated and the tops of the central windows on the 2nd floor are decorated with garlands. The broken slate roofs à la Mansart crowns the building, along with the very tall chimneys that keep the building in harmony. Inside, we find more decorative profusion through the representations of the figures of Greco‑Roman inspiration. As a major element of the french national heritage, this castle was built on the same bank of the Seine as the Royal Castle of Saint‑Germain, at a distance of four kilometers while keeping the same orientation towards the Seine.
