Psychosocial determinants of the professional activity of former prisoners on the labour market

Summary/Abstract: The subject of research in this article is the psychosocial determinants of professional activity of people after serving a prison sentence. The research group consisted of a total of 98 former prisoners from the Radom poviat. Tools such as the Schwarzer and Jerusalem Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Endler and Parker Stress Coping Questionnaire (CISS), the IMD Schaling Inventory, and the original questionnaire were used. The results of the research showed that former inmates are characterized by an average sense of effectiveness, an evasive style of coping with stress and an average severity of psychopathic traits, however, unemployed and employed respondents show greater deficits in personal functioning. Environmental factors that play an important role in the professional activity of the respondents is the occurrence of prejudices among employers and co-workers and the lack of social and personal support.
