Summary/Abstract: The questions connected with the human scent, its origin, determination, stability, and the possibility of identification are coming up to be an object of some scientific papers, whether in the field of forensic or medicine. In some countries, including Czech Republic, the scent trace is used as a suitable material in proving process. In police practice, only the olfactory method is used for the scent identification so far, whereas this method uses specially trained canines. Due to the subjectivity of this olfactory method, in the last years, it has been an effort to optimize conditions of the instrumental scent analysis and introduce it in the police practice. In this study, the human scent was fractionated into six fractions with decreasing volatility by means of the preparative gas chromatography method. The effort was to delimitate a narrower group of the scent compounds, in other words, compounds of the active scent signature, according to which canines could identify the target sample most successfully. The phenomenon of the multiplicity of scent signature was confirmed, which means the active scent signature occurs in the human scent in more variants.
