The Moisilians`s Cultural Dynasty – short biographical notes –

Summary/Abstract: Through the contact with the Western world, in the Romanian space of the 19th–20th centuries,the trend of finding the founding ancestor of illustrious families from various regions of thecountry was strengthened, drawing up numerous family monographs, archondologies and genealogical trees. Such a project, focused on the genealogy of the Moisil family from Năsăud, can also be found in the memoiristic notes left by Iuliu Moisil (1859–1947) for posterity. Beyond the reasons for the compilation of what he calls genealogical sketch, that attests to a strong group consciousness, but which can serve, according to the opinion of the historian Filip-Lucian Iorga, the accumulation of symbolic capital, offering a “surplus of prestige”, Moisil’s notes talk about the prestigious family that includes members of the Romanian Academy, who, through their work, have left an impressive cultural and scientific heritage to Romania.
