Summary/Abstract: The current paper aims at presenting the current state of affairs in the teaching and learning of Romanian as a foreign language (RFL) both in Romania and abroad. It starts from a brief literature review, referring to aspects such as the institutional contexts where RFL classes are organized, types of classes and learners. Next, the paper presents the teaching of RFL in practice, as evident from the discussions occasioned by the Round table entitled “Teaching Romanian as a foreign language in Romania and abroad - challenges, solutions, best practices”, organized as part of the International Conference “Synergies in Communication”, Bucharest, October 2022.
