Summary/Abstract: In the present study, we propose to analyze a truth of Hesychast spirituality, through which we are told that the mind (nous) is philocalic by nature. Saint Callistus the Katafyghiot/Angelicoude entrusts us with this truth. According to the theological thinking of this top philocalic author from the neptic tradition of the Church, the mind is philocalic, because it is “the most beautiful icon of the absolute Beautiful beyond thought” and “loves very much to look by turning towards its Cause, since, as it was said, looking there one sees and over-loves oneself”.Given that the seismograph of the contemporary society indicates a strong split at the societal level, but also at the level of personal life, the exit from this vortex of fragmentation and internal division can offer us, with maximum certainty, hesychast spirituality, which has as its central axis the union of the mind and the heart in the holy communion with God the Trinity, the authentic source of the unity of man as a spiritual reality, created in His image and likeness. One of the Philocalic and Hesychast Fathers, whose writings constitute a strong antidote to this fragmentation and split between mind and heart, is Saint Callistus the Katafyghiot/Angelicoude, the one we will focus on in the present text.
