Summary/Abstract: Our research refers to the symbol of the wolf in romanian religious beliefs and rituals, but also the symbols or motifs of the animal and of the beings that are ’’wolf-like”, found in literary texts. We can pin-point several representations of this symbol in the collective imaginary: the wolf as a ritual epithet of a warrior brotherhood; the wolf seen as a ferocious carnivore; the wolf as a religious symbol for protection; the wolf – a heraldic symbol of the Dacian priests; the wolf – as flag of ancient Dacians; the wolf as a mythological creature that marks reference points for time orientation; the wolf – metaphysical representation with the role of the protective and initiatory animal.
