The importance of intra-industry exchange in Polish foreign trade in agri-food products

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the results of the analyses of the phenomena connected with foreign exchange in Polish agri-food sector, in particular in the field of the intra-industry trade. A statistical analysis was used as a research method, covering the data from the years of 2009-2011. Polish foreign trade in agri-food products after the accession to the European Union has visibly intensified, although the phenomena of the global economic and financial crisis slowed down the turnover growth rate for some time. However, the scale of the intra-industry exchange in this sector is only satisfactory. This applies in particular to the industries with the largest shares in trade with foreign countries, such as meat, dairy and tobacco ones. An important observation constitutes the presence of revealed comparative advantages in the agri-food sector in relation to foreign partners.
