Summary/Abstract: The stateman, the philosopher and the historian Alex de Tocqueville was an early author who notice the irreversible nature of the democratization of the modern societies. By looking carefully at the nineteenth-century society, he was one of the precursors of the sociological analysis. In his main work, About Democracy in America he highlighted the cultural changes that accompanied the modernization of the American society. His entire life was convinced of the righteousness of the liberal thinker.
