Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to analyze how the Belgian Congo colony came to the attention of the public opinion in Romania. This was done in the beginning through the press and thanks to Romanians who travelled to that region and when they returned to the country they wrote their memoirs or organized several conferences. The accent was put on the hard life of the native population and on the atrocities it was subjected to by the Belgians. In the run-up to independence, Congo has again come to the attention of the Romanian communist press, this time, who has reported with great interest the events that took place at that time, positioning by the side of Patrice Lumumba. In order to carry out this study, a number of articles from the Romanian pre-war and communist press were used.
