Summary/Abstract: Corneliu Mănescu's visit to several African states represented an important moment for Romania's relations with the countries in that region. Its purpose was in particular the development of economic relations, in this respect being signed several cooperation agreements in various branches of it. This event represented the turning point of Mănescu at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, benefiting from a private plane and a large delegation, worthy of a true head of state. Also, in the states he visited, he was received with great pomp, especially due to the fact that in 1967 he held the position of President of the UN General Assembly. However, his popularity was not to the liking of the Ceausescu couple, from that moment Mănescu entered his disfavor and was replaced two years later. However, the 1970 event was considered a success by the Communist Party leadership and played an important role in preparing for Ceausescu's 1972 African tour.
