Summary/Abstract: The Byzantine monasticism reached its climax in the 14th century once hysichasm appeared, the most direct way of merging with God, of speaking with God through the perfect practice of prayer.Saint Grigorie Sinaitul is the one who systematically approached the technique of prayer, of contemplation of God, the climax of all ascetic endeavours and mentioned, in writing, at the request of his close friends, the best means for fulfilling the Christian living. I shall present in the pages of this study the life, permanent search of peace and quiet and of prayer, as well as the clear and precise theology of a great hermit of the Church.
