Summary/Abstract: The article refers to the 16th century colloquial style, particularly to the names of measures in The journey... by M. K. Radziwiłł. In the text, besides relatively precise names of measures (hour, ell, mile), there are inaccurate terms (in the morning, sunset, a few, good, np. na dobrym strzelaniu z łuku, phrases with the pronoun about e.g. about 4 hours etc.) all of which are characteristic for the colloquial style. Such state results from the instability of the contemporary measure system, which may be manifested in, for example, the variety of terms accompanying the word mile (Polish, Italian, great, Venice). There can be, on the one hand, seen the changeability of the official system, and, on the other hand, the invariability of the unofficial one, with both of the systems co-existing in the similar extent in the colloquial style.
