Summary/Abstract: Apart from residential, service, industrial, or recreational areas, municipal spaces also feature brownfields that require special investment before they can be reclassified for other uses. Brown-fields are mostly converted to service, commercial or residential areas, e.g. loft conversions, with some turned into green spaces complete with recreational and sports facilities. Kamionka Piast Pit in Opole represents a perfect example of such a conversion. Previously the site of a now defunct cement mill, the lot is now located downtown, close to residential and sports areas that include educational infrastructure and a railway rolling stock repair plant. This paper aims to present the gentrification, remediation, and revitalization efforts undertaken by the City of Opole to improve the blighted industrial area and transform it into one of the more attractive recreational playgrounds and nature sites in Opole.Since work on the pit revitalization was carried out under a project, the authors relied on the design documentation, legal acts, local strategic documents concerning brownfield revitalization, as well as certain Polish and foreign papers on the subject.Following its revitalization, Kamionka Piast Pit has become one of the more attractive sites in Opole, offering recreational, leisure, sports, and educational opportunities. Construction of new residential subdivisions, especially micro-apartments, has gained popular support among college students. Conserving valuable species of plants and animals combined with preventing further degradation of the site have greatly improved the area and its features.
