Summary/Abstract: The article portrays the EU as a battlefield, still largely undiscovered by Slovak politicians and political parties, even ten years after EU accession. The level of political ownership is still very low as is evident from the analysis of the political narrative – election manifestos and election-related interviews with the main political actors in Slovakia over the past ten years. During this period the dynamics of the EU’s internal evolution – changes to the treaties, the eurozone crisis and redesign – have inspired only moderate political interest in Slovakia, not enough to emancipate the Slovak political class from the position of being a follower of EU policies and long-term trends. Seen from this perspective, voter indifference in European elections does appear to be a logical consequence.
