Summary/Abstract: The well-being economy is a broad concept that has been developed by non-governmental organisations as well as certain governments and international organisations such as the OECD. The text attempts to delineate the boundaries of this concept as it is discussed in various settings, and to evaluate the potential benefits of the concept. As a response to various crisis phenomena associated with neoliberal economic practices that focus on growth and profit maximisation, the economics of wellbeing proposes the democratic setting of economic objectives so as to ensure social and ecological sustainability. Such a change in thinking and economic practice is already underway in many places, and the question remains open as to how intensely and widely it will eventually manifest itself.
