Summary/Abstract: The Brukenthal Picture Gallery shows a portrait of a man with beard / its old title: “Elderly man in the furmargined coat" (Inv.nr. 20) which was valid with some reservations up to now as a copy after Christoph Amberger. The author of this article took up his studies regarding the painting referring to an older allocation of this work (school of Hans Holbein the Younger); besides, he calls in recollection that in Frimmels opinion the painting is a copy to Amberger, while Karl Voll registered that it is not a copy and is not to be associated with Amberger. In the following article the author analyses the work and mentions the opinion of other experts concerning this work. In a personal conversation with the expert of the German Renaissance Kurt Löcher the author agreed with the opinion of the latter, namely that the painting is a well realized and valuable work which belongs to the painter's circle around Hans Mielich. In the end the author brings some data to the life and creating of Hans Mielich and his most important collaborators (Ludwig Refinger, Barthel Beham and Hans Schöpfer the Elder.
