Summary/Abstract: This is an article about the meaning of “applied ethics” found in a process of extreme specialization. A peaceful aggreement in the anti‐theory battle is proposed by distinguishing various institutional contexts in which “applied ethics” has distinct meanings and therefore distinct roles. I propose to focus on an intermediate space between pure moral philosophy and its practical aplications in which several decision making procedures could be located (principlism, ethical matrix, Hare’s two levels utilitarianism, Christian ethics, casuistry, narrative ethics etc.). A pluralistic approach of ethical decision making is finally proposed, using the “ethical Delphi test” and the “consensus conferences”.
