Summary/Abstract: The author argues against those who claim that Aristotle does not use in the Nicomachean Ethics the dialectical method presented in his Topics and that this method is hardly visible in his works generally. The structure of Aristotle’s method is emphasized (using a detailed analysis of akrasia and eudaimonia) and then one shows that it is present everywhere in the text of the NE (not only in VII, 1-10), as well as in other Aristotelian works such as De Anima, Metaphysics and the Eudemian Ethics. Dialectics is seen not only as a method of discovering the essence of a thing (what (essentially) is happiness?) but of its “specificity” – which includes the definition and the “proprium” (even the “accidents” are interesting to be known for practical reasons). Therefore, the main question of the NE is not what is the essence of happiness, but what is its specificity and how should we use it in the political life?
