THE SELF-TRANSLATION – BETWEEN CREATION AND TRANSCULTURALITY

Summary/Abstract: The self-translation is a particular form of translation of an original work into another language by the author himself. Branch of traductology since 1980, the self-translation is often associated with bilinguism and exile. In the complex process of self-translation, the rewriting process of literary works must not be compared to simple linguistic transposition, because these texts overturn the myths of original/translation or fidelity/betrayal. “To rewrite” a literary work means writing it in and from within, besides the cultural and linguistic boundaries. The self-translation becomes the mirror of the author and the door to access the transcultural. The present work is to highlight what stands between, in and beyond the relation of the authors with the source-language and the target language, by passing through linguistic and cultural spaces, but also through the creation process. Transculturality becomes the engine of evolution, culture and dialogue with the Other.
