Summary/Abstract: The female character in Vasile Voiculescu's work is a delicate and complex subject, even restrictive, but it is necessary to explore the possibilities that arise from the Stories selected for this purpose. An important role in this endeavor is a continuous “recitation” at the individual level. It is essential to carefully identify and analyze both the female characters and their symbolic weight. Most of the female characters come from the village world, where the negative effects of civilization have not yet arrived, they still have that purity of the simple woman, in paradise, originally isolated from civilization and being the subject to the rules of the patriarchal community. Playing a minor, limited but very well defined role, they are the factor that causes unexplained psychic phenomena that have consequences on the being and the psychic. Voiculescu created and integrated these characters in the performance of the action, trying to compensate either with the disorder of the outer and inner world, or with the inner conflicts of the other acting characters. Starting from the divine feminine model, the grieving mother, the widow, the woman suffering from the disease, the victim of society, reaching the muse, the woman as an ideal projection of perfection and finally, to the witch, the faces of women invoked in the Stories correspond to personal aspirations, or to some states of spiritual crisis, determining searches that can only be contradictory and dramatic.
