Salt resources in the treaty between Tudhaliya IV and Kurunta from Tarhuntašša

Summary/Abstract: The Hittites’ king Tudhaliya IV not only confirmed the donations made by his father to Kurunta, king of Tarhuntašša, but also extended the rights on all the salt exploitation region (with the cities and their territories), in exchange of Tudhaliya’s legitimacy recognition by Kurunta. It was a subtle political game in which the first role was played by the most important salt exploitation zone of Anatolia.
