Consecrations of Sacred Slaves and Functionaries to Helios Apollo Lairbenos in Asia Minor (1st-3rd centuries AD)

Summary/Abstract: Consecration of the sacred slaves and functionaries was a common practice in the western parts of Anatolia, with analogies in several locations of Macedonia, Elymais, Boeotia or Egypt. The nature and function of this practice, as well as the future status of the individuals dedicated to the service of the gods – usually by their relatives or closest friends – was subject of intense debates. The article underlines the peculiarities of the practice related to the temple of Apollo Lairbenos in Southern Phrygia, the typology of the steles that mention it, and its importance for the social life of the devotees, mostly indigenous people. Rezumat: Consacrarea sclavilor şi a funcţionarilor sacri reprezenta o practică obişnuită în zona de vest a Anatoliei, având analogii şi în alte locuri precum Macedonia, Elymaida, Beotia sau Egiptul. Natura şi funcţionalitatea sa, dar şi statutul potenţial al celor care erau dedicaţi pentru a sluji zeilor, de obicei de către rudele sau prietenii apropiaţi, au constituit obiectul unor intense discuţii. Articolul de faţă subliniază particularităţile acestei practici puse în legătură cu templul lui Apollo Lairbenos din sudul Frigiei, tipologia stelelor care o menţionează şi importanţa sa pentru viaţa socială a dedicanţilor, în mare parte indigeni.
