Summary/Abstract: Maramureș is a particular ethnographic area of Romania. It is famous as the place where the founders of the Romanian medieval state from the East of the Carpathians, the voivodes Dragos and Bogdan, were famous, as well as the old wooden churches, the architecture of the old wooden houses and the unaltered preservation of some old Romanian folk customs. But in the last half century and Maramureş has undergone radical changes on all levels. The houses are built quite differently from other materials, the popular port is missing only very rarely and on festive occasions, the customs are also no longer practiced according to the ancestral calendar as a direct experience, but are more imitated and performed with a detachment completely killing their spirit. The problem we have to ask is: how can we get to the archetypal substrate of customs whose meanings have been forgotten? And what would be the most appropriate methods that we should use for this purpose?
