Summary/Abstract: The last years have designed a real” battlefield” in education, in order to identify the most suitable model to follow: the knowledge model, the training model, the relationship and the interrelationship model, the one of building an ideal class of students. The” formal” and “fundamental” transformations that occurred in society and then, in education seen as an extension of it, have generated a lot of changes that have led to a profound reform of the entire education system. The permanence of the changes makes it necessary to rethink the educational process and to focus it on the learning subject and on its skills acquisition, acquisitions that will provide the path to a permanent education, a lifelong education. In this current social and educational context, the development of the metacognitive skill appears as a savior in the face of superficiality, it is outlined like a personal reflection of the individual, a meditation on his own thinking about thinking.
