Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the traditional method of organizing the independent work of students in directing courses. It reveals the historical perspective, essence, and functions of the classical theatrical exercise. It also determines the role of the stage in the professional development of the director. The paper is based on the practical experience and methodological material of the author.
