Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to examine the status of Polish criminal literature in the most widely read women’s weekly of People’s Poland in the years 1948–1989. It uses the method of content analysis, focusing mainly on fictional texts and reviews, notes, lists of new publications on the book market. All the issues are listed in chronological order, adequate to the changing publishing formula of the weekly. The results of the study showed that “Przyjaciółka” did not bring anything new to the development of the Polish crime novel, nor was it a channel to promote it in a wide circulation of readers. Nevertheless, its pages show a change in the perception of this popular genre of prose – from negation to acceptance in the mid-1970s.
