Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role of the river in the history of Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The city, founded in 1975, is connected with the Oder and the Kłodnica rivers, as well as the shipping channels that reach it from Upper Silesia. Although the Oder perspective is shown from the perspective of several centuries, the analysis concerns the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries, showing the influence of the industry on the role of the Oder river in the life of the city and its inhabitants. The river is not only an element of the natural environment, but it also constitutes an economic, tourist and recreational potential for the inhabitants.
