Lifelong learning in the perspective of the european skills agenda

Summary/Abstract: In recent years, the idea of lifelong learning has been gaining impor- tance. The dynamically changing labor market, challenges related to the growing use of technology and work automation have an impact on employment and sectors of the economy. Therefore, one of the priorities of lifelong learning is to increase participation of adults in education and training. This paper presents the European Skills Agenda announced by the European Commission in 2020. The Skills Agen- da for Sustainable Competitiveness, Social Fairness and Resilience responds to the need of adults to develop the new skills needed in the ever-changing world. The article analyzes the issues related to the additional importance of the idea of lifelong learning. Considerations were also made on the educational policy in the context of implementing its concept in educational practice.
