Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the results from two studies, implemented during the pandemic Wave 1 and Wave 2 in Bulgaria. They reveal coherent and somehow different models in the process of adaptation to life in times of pandemic. The main position is that the pandemic is an acute manifestation of a crisis situation – perceived lack of control, unpredictability, and health and economic concerns. This draws to the focus on outlining the general effective ongoing search for optimal functioning. Thus, what we consider most valuable is what helps people adapt in view to outline the key points of crisis management that can be effective both on individual and national level in future especially in respect to mental health and well-being. We suggest this as a general accommodation coping framework that can be beneficial for designing individual and group interventions and preventive programs. Accommodative coping is described as the optimal specific response to dynamic changes that best supports the low levels of perceived stress and high psychological well-being. This implication can be extrapolated in the broader terms of crises management.
