Summary/Abstract: One of the most important English composers, Sir Edward Elgar, representative of the romantic current, is not part of the constellation of composers who, through their work, irreversibly transformed the paradigms of musical art. Despite belonging to a musical culture that is less visible in the European cultural context, he managed to leave behind several valuable opuses entered into the universal repertoire such as Variations on an original theme, op. 36, or the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, in E minor, Op. 85. The present study is a structuralist analysis of the variational techniques used by the composer in the creation of the Variations op. 36 known as the Enigma Variations.
