Summary/Abstract: The cycle «A Tale of the iron cross» is known as such, but unfortunately it has not been studied properly from various aspects. There are many peculiarities which must be investigated in depth. These are aspects concerning social relations and details on everyday life in tenth-century Bulgaria. Economic activities are mentioned, usually in considerable details. Instances of family life are described, and the modern day reader can easily recognize them. At the same time a careful investigation reveals unexpected information regarding legal knowledge and its application to the lower levels of society. This hagiographical literary work is successful evidence of knowledge of juridical clauses in contemporary law codices. Traces of regulation which concerns legal capacity of the family members, sale trade and property expropriation, trails, corporal and other penalties can be observed on the Tale's papers. The importance of the cycle of miracle stories is essential. It comes as result not only by manifestation of adoption and obedience to the Byzantine law experience after the Bulgarian Christening, but also by revelation of popular practices in inheritance, patrimonial shares, substitution of punishments and variants of recompense for misdemeanor.
