Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of crime, together with the global economic crisis and the growing political instability, is of deepconcern to the whole of society. The activity of mercenaries is closely linked to criminal phenomena such as terrorism, extremism,trafficking in human beings, drugs and weapons, but also other types of organised crime, making it constitute a serious threatto the security of society as a whole. This article reveals and analyses the causes and general and special conditions, whichinfluence the activity of mercenaries as a global criminal phenomenon
