THE ACTUALITY OF THE BAPTISMAL MYSTERY

Summary/Abstract: The Sacrament of Baptism is one of the seven Holy Mysteries of the Church through which man partakes of divine grace, receives forgiveness of ancestral sin and, last but not least, becomes a member of the mystical body of Christ which is the Church. Since the Old Testament period, the world has been prepared to receive this mystery through various prefigurations of it. Later in the New Testament, if is the Saviour Jesus Christ who fully lays the foundations of the baptismal mystery. And after His asumption to heaven the Holy Apostles, and later the bishops and priests ordained by them, continued to fulfil the command left by Christ to go throughout the world and baptize people in the name of the Holy Trinity. Baptism remains as topical as ever, despite the times and times that follow one another throughout history. Thus Christ remains present and at work in history, time and space.
