TRANSLATING SAN-ANTONIO IN ROMANIAN

Summary/Abstract: In our article, we shall present the challenges of translating San-Antonio's fiction, by a comparative analysis of his novel 'Bérurier au sérail' and of its translation in Romanian made by Marie-Jeanne Vasiloiu. We shall concentrate upon the translation of proper nouns, which often represent puns, the translation of address terms (caressive and insulting appellatives), of nicknames and slang pseudo pronouns, of lexical creations and puns, of San-Antonio's slang as well as of grammar mistakes, all of them meant to force the readers to reflect upon the language and to become conscious of the way they make use of it.
