LA TRADUCTION DES NOMS PROPRES D'ASTÉRIX EN ROUMAIN
TRANSLATING THE PROPER NAMES OF ASTERIX IN ROMANIAN

Summary/Abstract: In this article we analyze the ways of translating the proper names used in the French comic book series Asterix.We work on a corpus comprising six original volumes and their translations in Romanian by three publishing houses (Egmont, Arthur, Art). Apart from real proper names, most of them toponyms or theonyms, which are either reported or basically adapted to the target language, the volumes contain mostly invented proper names based on wordplay for a comic effect. In most of the cases, the four translators of our corpus preserve the wordplay, even if they use sometimes just a functional equivalent or a different name more appropriated to its referent or even a cultural adaptation more impressive for a foreign reader.
