Summary/Abstract: This paper presents results from an associative experiment involving 50 Spanish students studying Russian at the University of Barcelona. The aim of the survey was to diagnose images that function in their linguistic awareness about Russian culture in the broadest sense. Linguistic material was collected in the form of 484 free verbal responses to the stimuli included in the questionnaire (Russia, Russians, Russian culture, economy, foreign and domestic policy of Russia). The results of the study showed that the image of Russia and knowledge about Russian culture can be described as stereotypical and do not go beyond the information provided by the mass media.
