Modeling of the thematic clusters of the sports lexicon of the modern Ukrainian language on the base of information technologies

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the peculiarities of modeling the sports lexicon of the Ukrainian language on the basis of author’s computer program «Verbarium». This program displays thematic clusters of the Ukrainian language lexicon, in particular such game sports as basketball, volleyball and football at the beginning of the 21st century. «Verbarium» makes it possible to systematize data and model lingual facts according to semantic, taxonomic, formal-structural and functional parameters. The «Semantic Stratification» database represents a multi-level semantic hierarchy of thematic clusters. The «Taxonomy» database explains the taxonomic ranks of the sports lexicon: sports field terms; extra-industry terminological units; terminological commonly used lexical units; nomenclature; professionalism, professional jargon. In the «Formal-Structural Types» database, the lexical unit from the sports fi eld is assigned to one of the groups: words that arose according to word-forming methods typical for the national language; multi-component lexical units; foreign loanwords. The «Functioning» database records the contexts of the use of vocabulary in the special and non-special spheres.
