Summary/Abstract: Naval logbooks are one of the most important historical sources for tracing the accumulation of knowledge passed down through generations and reflect the progress made in professionalizing and standardizing the Navy. However, it is clear that the potential of these sources has not been sufficiently exploited in the academic field in Turkey. Despite the limited number of logbooks available, however, it is possible to find data indicating that the Abdulhamid period navy, which was at the center of political debates, aimed to establish a modest presence in overseas regions and important sea lanes and carried out crucial activities to achieve this goal. The main objective of this study is to provide a different interpretation of naval policy based on the navigation logbooks of warships from the Abdulhamid period, offering an original contribution for future studies in this field.
